Sojang, a highly controversial YouTuber from South Korea, is infamous for circulating baseless rumors and false information about celebrities, often leading to irreparable harm to their reputation. She has earned YouTube ad revenue from such content and has been sued by some of the biggest names in K-pop for defamation and slander.
Here is the list of the K-pop idols that took legal action against Sojang.
Kang Daniel
In July 2022, Kang Daniel filed a criminal complaint against the notorious YouTuber Sojang for spreading baseless rumors. On September 11, 2024 his agency ARA reported that the idol had won the first trial against the YouTuber, and the label will now proceed with a separate civil lawsuit, demanding 100 million KRW in compensation for damages.
IVE’s Jang Wonyoung
Jang Wonyoung from IVE has been pursuing civil and criminal lawsuits against Sojang since November 2022 for consistently spreading false information and malicious rumors, as well as allegedly hiring people to post defamatory comments about her. Sojang has been ordered to pay 100 million KRW in compensation in the civil lawsuit.
BTS’ V and Jungkook
On August 16, reports surfaced that the two youngest members of BTS, Jungkook and V, had filed a lawsuit against the malicious YouTuber Sojang, seeking damages of approximately 90 million KRW. The first trial was held on August 23, five months after the case was filed, where Sojang refuted the allegations, asserting that her videos were merely personal opinions and not defamatory.
EXO’s Suho
On September 4, SM Entertainment officially stated to the media that EXO’s leader Suho had sued Sojang in April on charges of violating the act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation). The accused admitted to the production of videos but denied defamation and obstruction of business.
aespa
Along with Suho from EXO, all four members of aespa – Karina, Ningning, Winter, and Giselle filed a lawsuit against the infamous YouTuber Sojang in April on the charges of defamation as stated by SM Entertainment, the representative agency of the girl group. The first trial took place on September 2 at the Incheon District Court.
Above these idols, Sojang faced legal actions from multiple South Korean entertainment agencies. In 2021, Big Hit Music, representing BTS, initiated a defamation lawsuit, and in 2022, KQ Entertainment, the agency of ATEEZ, followed suit with a similar legal action against Sojang. However, the lack of adequate identification from YouTube posed a significant hurdle in advancing the lawsuits at that time.
